Only a few programs can impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters. For more information, see www.hku.hk/dse. Please also note that if you wish to study abroad during your programme at UCL, there may be additional fees. According to an email sent to all HKU students on Monday and seen by HKFP, students must enroll in a non-creditable course titled “Introduction to the Constitution, Basic Law and National Security Law.” The requirement will come into effect from the 2022/23 school year. “At the same time, [the Bureau of Education], in collaboration with the Office of Security, will give all secondary and elementary schools and kindergartens a picture book entitled `Our Country, Our Security` and introduce a sense of national security and increase students` awareness and sense of responsibility to maintain national security through various real-life topics and examples.” In the 2nd year, you will follow four additional compulsory modules: tort law, property law II, EU and human rights law, and case law and legal theory. The Faculty of Law offers a wide range of subjects and applies a variety of teaching methods. Hong Kong`s position as an international commercial and financial centre makes it a fascinating and stimulating environment for the study and practice of law. Under the Basic Law, Hong Kong`s existing law will remain fundamentally unchanged for 50 years from 1997, meaning that the common law, based on the English system, will continue to apply. Hong Kong lawyers play a larger role in China`s modernization, as well as on constitutional and legal issues associated with the transfer of sovereignty – so Chinese law is also relevant. International trade and humanitarian law are also becoming increasingly important. Students at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) must take an introductory course in Beijing`s national security law to graduate. Detailed information on tuition fees, tuition policy and possible fee increases can be found on the UCL Student Website: ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/undergraduate/funding-your-studies. Faculty graduates can also pursue a wide range of careers that, at first glance, seem to have little to do with law. Some of our graduates go on to become high-ranking figures in the business sector, political leaders, presidents of state-owned enterprises, as well as senior government officials and journalists. Including HKU, the eight universities funded by the city`s Academic Grants Committee (UGC) have launched or will begin national security courses.
